The Curtain Falls on Day 1

Hello Family and Friends,

Today was our first day of the program and what an exciting day it was!

We participated in and learned a few new name game strategies, as well as some performance based approaches to teaching Shakespeare. One approach in particular can be utilized before starting a play to ensure students understand that characters can take on the role of 4 main archetypes (carer, trickster, warrior, and sovereigns). In doing so, the delivery of lines and such must be articulated accordingly,. Very fascinating and cannot wait to try it in the classroom!

We also had an opportunity to participate in a discussion on he role of the audience while sitting in The Globe Theater. Its quite small, but very intimate. We learned how actors like to utilize the audience during a show and that the physical structure (polygon shape, open air, etc.) of the Globe facilitates so that both the actors and the audience are involved in the story telling.

Our night ended with a social followed by dinner. Tomorrow we have a long day which concludes with us attending a performance of Macbeth at The Globe Theater  . . . yes, we will be seeing plays these next few weeks on the stage of The Globe . . . how awesome is that?!?!?!

Hope you enjoy these latest pics; more to come . . .
